Tam bounded happily ahead, the masked animal stopping every now and then to take in new sights and scents. He seemed to be enjoying himself, his small form easily getting through, round or under the many moving feet. People seemed to flock to the amusement park everyday; people came with their friends or boyfriends or on their own, Zeph figured it depended on their mood. He’d never come to the park, never really been interested in it. But recently he had passed the place by and Tam seemed to have been interested- okay. He was lying to himself. For quite a while he had been curious as to what it was like, and even if he had to put up with the countless stares and comments he had been determined to go. At least once.
So, here he was. Walking around rather aimlessly and completely clueless as to what to do. What ride should he go on? They all looked fun. Should he buy food? He was hungry, and Tam was being teased with all these scents. Or should he try to talk to someone? Find another shifter perhaps? There just seemed like so much to do, and Zeph really couldn’t wrap his head around which ones to do, if he should do them and when.
Many times Zeph was distracted by a couple walking happily along, it made him feel slightly lonely- but only for a moment, as Tam was always sure to come bouncing back; animals always did seem to be good at sensing peoples emotions. Tam ran back to him, little feet clinging onto his moving leg then climbing up again as Zeph stopped. Finding a comfortable spot on his shoulders, Tam look subtly over to one of the many food stands. “Heh. Well. At least I have you.” Zeph rolled his eyes, a sharp-toothed grin spreading across his face as Tam nudged his face. “I reckon we make a good couple.” He massaged behind one of Tam’s ears before setting off.
He didn’t think he’d get on a rid unless Tam was hiding in his bag, and the little raccoon defiantly wouldn’t do that unless he got fed. It didn’t take long to by a reel of candyfloss- which he probably wasn’t going to get any of. But he didn’t mind, it was funny watching Tam eat, and amazing how he kept a normal weight.
It didn’t really take long to find an empty bench. Zeph walked over to it, narrowly missing a few colliding with other people as the walked blindly around with dates or friends. He sighed, knee’s practically giving way as he stood in front of the bench. “Well.” He said, Tam sitting on his hind legs front feet clapping in front of him in a raccoon style beg. Zeph smiled, holding out to sweet food for his furry friend to start eating. “You’re defiantly going to end up fat...”

The ground seemed to have a thick coat of yellow popcorn spread on it everywhere. As hard as she tried, there was no way Soulei could possibly avoid stepping on them. It didn't bother her much at first really... it was an outdoor public amusement park, after all. But after a while the sole of her shoes began to collect the snack, bringing upon an uncomfortable sentation with each step. The sun beat down on her back with its powerful rays, which made Soulei incredibly grateful that she never sweat (excluding extreme atmospheres). Her handy-dandy sunglasses where nowhere to be found, so she had unwisely left the apartment without them. Although she appeared quite normal, her thoughts were muddled with worried thoughts of self conciousness. I hope I don't smell like wet dog, she thought, biting her lip. No it's all in your head. That didn't reassure her even in the slightest, but she hoped it was true.
It wasn't the first time Soulei had taken a trip down here, but she was beginning to notice just how many couples gathered. They appeared on after another, as if they were being exported from a toy factory. The idea of being alone at that moment was bothersome. Not in a jealous sense, but in a way that made her wonder why she didn't think of coming here with a friend. She was sure it would've been much more entertaining than wandering aimlessly for a cheap concession stand or kiosk. Earlier in the day she rode a few random rides, but began to feel queasy. Soulei really hadn't thought this through, especially since at the time, it seemed like a good idea to have a large, luxurious breakfast.
"Uaghh," she sighed, before briefly pausing her walk to buy a cool, refreshing soda. The soft drink trickled down her throat, prickly bubbles and all. Soulei suddenly wondered why she hadn't had more drinks instead of buying a bunch of sugary candy snacks. Much rejuvinated, she sat down on a wooden bench, and proceeded to tie her restless hair into a high ponytail. She wasn't very experienced with this action, so it was a bit messy- but it'd have to do for now.
After sitting down for a few moments with her hands tucked between her legs, blankly staring at the ground, she noticed there was a raccoon on the bench to her right. The scavenging animal would easily have disgusted some others, but Soulei found it quiet cuddly-looking. She smiled brightly at it and gave a small wave, but looked away when she realized it belonged to someone already. Bleh, I might even have taken it home, she thought sourly. With its big round eyes, it almost captured her heart. Just almost.

A sneaker-clad foot kicked clear the popcorn that was scattered on the floor. His shoes were sticking and he frowned at the mess he discovered at the bottom of them, Tam eating happily away by his side. The sun was blinding, but the arm feeling on his skin felt to nice to complain about. Lifting his head, Zeph followed the progress of a few people before turning his attention to the sticky faced raccoon sitting on the bench. He jerked his hand a little, Tam panicking slightly before settling back down again. “Really?” He asked the oblivious animal, “Seriously? I bought this y’know...” Just as he had thought, there was no way he was going to have any of the candy-floss without having a sulking Tam on his hands; and he’d rather not. Leaning back, Zeph inhaled deeply, different scents mixing to create an air -that seemed to be- of fun. A smile pulled at his mouth, today wasn’t... So bad.
Zeph almost didn’t notice the girl sit on the bench, and although he had seen her he tried his best to ‘not notice’. It was always better that way, he found. People never usually took well to a raccoon sitting next to them- luckily it looked like she hadn’t noticed them, the girl seeming to be in a daze. Zeph crossed his legs on the bench, shuffling himself backwards a little and coaxing Tam towards him, subtly drawing himself and Tam as far away as possible. He didn’t really want to have to move, and Tam was sure to kick up a fuss if stopped, he didn’t want to drew any unnecessary attention to himself. That... Would be bad. His eyes flicked up to look at the girl every now and than, on hand still holding the stick with the quickly disappearing sweet.
Tam perked and, turning his head, at last noticed the stranger. His ears twitched, his wide eyes following the waving hand before coming to rest on her face. It was perfectly natural for the animal to instantly scan a person for food, and see if they were willing to give him any. He couldn’t quite tell this time, all the smells of the surrounding area were disrupting his usually accurate sense of smell. Tam hopped to his feet and turned, walking closer, unafraid, to the woman. Once close enough, he sniffed a little along her leg before rubbing his muzzle and the side of his neck along it. He wanted to be stroked.
At first Zeph hadn’t known what to do, his mind had gone completely blank. Then, slowly, his facial expression turned to one of horror. Damn raccoon had gone and done that?! Zeph wrapped his hands around Tam’s belly and pulled him away from the girl, hugging the annoyed animal against his chest. He looked to Tam then, wide-eyed and apologetic, to the woman. “I'm... So sorry.” He should really go now, before this gets any worse...

Zeph cradled Tam in his arms the girl standing to stroke him. Ah. That was good. She didn’t seem to be bothered at all by the little raccoon. He couldn’t help but smile, feeling relief and a little happy about the fact he and his pet weren’t being looked down on. As she stroked Tam, Zeph managed to get a better look at who he was dealing with. She was pretty, and quite a bit shorter than he was, though that wasn’t saying much considering he was tall anyway. And he wasn’t even going to ponder on her age. Most often he got it wrong...
“Ah- Uh- He’s Tamangi. But you can just call him Tam.” Was his reply to her question. The obsidian haired male tilted his head to the side, his gaze wondering around to see if she was with anyone. She wasn’t, and he found it quite strange how someone as pretty as she was would be on her own. Shifter maybe? But then again he was probably just being hopeful. But... it would explain... No. Zeph shook his head to himself. No use getting his hopes up about something. It was probably just his imagination running wild.
Zeph smiled, Tam enjoying all the attention he was getting. No matter what people thought of him, the little masked creature wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything- as long as he got food at the end of his brave adventures. “I'm Zeph. By the way.” He spoke after a little while, eyes never staying trained on her for to long so he didn’t seem rude.

Solei could sometimes see him taking a peek at her every once in while from her peripheral vision, though it could, of course, just be her imagination. After some time, petting the animal gave her a heavy arm, so she dropped it and sat back on the bench like she was previously. A beautiful raccoon, she kept telling herself. In actuality, she was quite afraid of rodents when she was first introduced to them. While taking out her incredibly odorous trash bag, there was a loud ruffling noise coming from inside the trash cans. Her feet had frozen in place, and she immediately assumed it was someone spying on her (for whatever reason). While preparing herself for an ambush, a small and bushy head poked out from the top, causing the metal lid to drop with a clang, which also spun in place for a minute obnoxiously. It was dark outside and she couldn't quite grasp the full figure of it, so she threw her bag over to the general area and ran back inside.
About a week later, she had returned with yet another unpleasantly scented bag to rid her room of such a disgusting item. This time, the creature was in full view, black eye mask and all. It's eyes looked like plastic buttons, gleaming but twitching in the sunlight. It only swiveled its head towards her for a second before bounding away, soon followed by its companion who had apparently been lounging nearby. And so again, with a feeling of deja-vu, she propelled the trash to the general. Her mind was still cautious, and was a bit afraid that they would return if she got too close and attack her. And... Rabies, ugh. That wouldn't be so much fun. Though she never truly discovered why they never returned, she suspected someone had scared them away permanently or called animal control on them.
Thanks to some social help, she did some research on these 'raccoons' and was relieved to find out she hadn't been careful for nothing. They could become very aggressive sometimes, even though they were so cute! In any case, Solei had a learning experience and wouldn't forget it, no matter how pointlessly trivial the memories were.
Tamangi, was it? It was a unique name, but easy enough to remember when nicknamed with Tam. It was actually suiting, and another smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "How nice! I think it fits him very nicely, judging by his looks." It was amusing to notice him enjoying her attention, though she wouldn't doubt he received it often. When he introduced himself, she repeated his several times in her head to make sure she didn't suddenly forget it in the middle of a conversation. That would be embarrassing, and she would know; it's happened before. "Nice to meet you, Zeph! You can call me Solei. So, what's a good-looking kid like you doing here all alone? Er, besides Tam, of course." She added, hoping she didn't indirectly offend him.
