Zeph's words caused the turquoise topped girl to blush and startle heavily. Had she been drinking at this moment in time, she definitely would have choked on the fluid and spit it all over the place. Calming down again she let her gaze wander across the table, looking at both the guys and their animals. Both of them were Shifters unafraid of openly showing what they were, even though there were more than enough people that bore hatred toward everything they couldn't understand. Maki herself knew what it felt like to be at the mercy of cruel, individuals that only saw her kin as either animals or objects. Looking at their faces, she kept wondering if the two of them had been through similar hardship.
After remaining silent for a while her soft, peachy parted. "Nice to meet you Lunus and well.. I originally wanted to go on a date but yeah... Things turned out differently." A deep sigh followed her words, caused by the thoughts about Cody. Even though she would have loved to date her fellow student, Maki thought that things didn't turn out too bad, since she was able to meet people that were similar to her, even if she hid that fact from them. She felt sorry for lying to them but she was convinced that she did the right thing, since she wanted to be normal. But thinking about this, the urge to get to know more about these two individuals and the experiences they made with humans.
Snapping out of her thoughts she gave in to her urges, causing her lips to part. "Ehm... Well... I know it might be out of place to ask something personal as this but... What is it like... To be different from everyone else?" Her voice carried a curious and yet compassionate tone, while her eyes remained focused on the sweets standing in front of her. Were the others even going to tell a total stranger like her about their grief? Or could it be that she would have to go out of her way and reveal her own secret to them? No, she was well aware that something like that mustn't happen if she wanted to lead a life as ordinary human.

Lunus shrugged and pulled out one of his books. It was a leather bound journal he had used ever since he started to write, which was when he turned four. He flipped back to the early pages and handed it to Maki, "Most of my life is in there, from when i was four onwards. I was released before then but that was when i was three so..." he trailed off and then shrugged, leaving it on the table for Zeph and Maki to read.
Lunus then returned to looking at his surroundings. The trees rustled in a slow breeze and he felt something change, like a drop in temperature. He shrugged it off, thinking it was his mind playing tricks on him. "Well before the release i can't remember many details apart from this guy," he patted Streak, "Being not much bigger than a small cat."
He wished he could tell them more, and try to share in their experiences but he was so young and as far as he was concerned that part of his life was behind him. All what mattered lay before him and that included these people. He wasn't much of a believer in the divine order of life but this seemed like a meeting that was just 'on the cards', as his foster mother usually put it. He smiled and then looked deeply at Maki, "Sorry to hear about your date cancelling," he said with a slightly grim expression, "But he probably has a good reason. Or is it a she? Just so i'm not making any presumptions..." |

Zeph tilted his head to the side. “Bummer. Well, whoever it was is missing out on some delicious sweets.” He looked to Tam, the raccoon looking very round bellied as he pigged out on the food. “I think Tam agree’s.” He smiled, but that was soon replaced by a frown at the next thing Maki said. He didn’t say anything at first, just lowered his head and listened to Lunus, eyes flicking up to watch the paper slid across the table.
The wind picked up slightly, strands of his hair being blown in front of his face, he blew them away. “Its not to bad.” He spoke up eventually, after a short moment’s silence. “You get used to it after a while. And it’s not even like I'm completely alone.” As if on cue, Tam looked up, head cocked to the side as he looked at Zeph. “It was lonely when I first got fostered. Didn’t really know what to do, how to react.” Gah. Why was he saying this? “But the family that took me in was so kind, it didn’t take long for me to love them for all their hard work.” A sad smile graced his face as he continued to look down at his hands.
“People treated mum and dad badly ‘cause they took someone like me in. But they stood their ground, and Somehow I got an education. I left as soon as I could so I wouldn’t cause any more problems.” He looked up. “I just live with it now. People act how they’ve been conditioned to act. I'm lucky I had good role models.” He loved his surrogate family, he never really visited them though, whether it was out of fear or the want to protect them he didn’t know. “I'm not really affected by it. After all, there are people like you.” He smiled softly.

Asking this rather blunt question Maki had expected anything but Lunus handing some kind of diary to her all of a sudden. Skimming through the diary and listening to Zeph, a mixture of emotions kept swelling within the female's chest. She felt sorry for asking such an intimate question while lying to them at the same time. Also hearing their stories she was astonished how both of them could take so much pride in being different, even if it caused them to suffer. It was something she herself wasn't capable of doing. She herself wasn't that strong. The fact that Zeph had mentioned he was relieved to know that humans like her existed made her inner conflict even worse.
Even though suffering from pangs of conscience the female's peachy lips remained sealed, not allowing the faintest of tones to part. Feeling the sudden wind that gently embraced her face Maki was reminded of the sky and how it felt to roam the same. The sky was a peaceful place but it wasn't the realm human beings were supposed to dwell in. Raising her gaze to take a look at the few, aloof clouds slowly wandering across the pure blue above. Just what was she supposed to do? Her heart told her to drop her facade and reveal her wings, while her head kept insisting on continuing this cruel game of charade, hoping to be able to lead a normal life.
Snapping out of her thoughts and returning her gaze to the two males, Maki then broke the veil of silence that had engulfed her. "I'm sorry... I didn't meant o make you suffer by remembering the past. You just hear so many things concerning people like you.. I just wanted to know what it was like... I'm sorry..." Saying this her voice carried a sad tone. Not knowing what to say or do, she faked yet another smile, directing it straight at Lunus and Zeph.

"Hell," Lunus said with a broard smile on his face, "My life is nothing compared to some. I enjoy being both human and knowing i will always have a lifelong companion. Alot." He said this in a so matter of a fact way that he himself was shocked at how he was speaking. He never usually opened up like this, it was a weird experience for him.
He picked up his journal and smiled back at Maki before scratching Tam absent-mindedly, causing Streak to growl slightly. He looked at Maki, a bit more searchingly this time, and thought deeply. She seems awfully curious, he thought, Is there something she could be hiding? Or is she working for SHIFT? Lunus' paranoia was kicking in now but he was sure it was just his mind.
Streak padded over to some small birds and cocked his head. What were they now? He didn't really know but they certainly looked tasty. He jumped on one and devoured it before one next to it could react. He then jumped on that once and ate it whole. There was no danger of their brittle bones piercing anything so he was fine. But he didn't know what this display would have on anyone else watching, so he padded back slowly with his head hung low. |

Zeph smiled lightly. “Its fine. I don’t really mind.” If anything it felt kind of good to have told someone what he just shared with them. It was kind that little weight had been shared out equally. He was so happy that it didn’t even occur to him that Maki might actually be hiding something from him and Lunus. They sat in silence for a little while, he didn’t really know what to say, which was a first. Usually he’d be running his mouth off about the tiniest things- but it just didn’t seem like the right atmosphere for a story. It felt to serious for that.
Tam was really enjoying the random attention he received from the strange human, though short lived as it was it was fine. Greedily, he shoved another piece of food in his mouth before looking curiously over at the wolf. He was really big, but Tam wasn’t afraid, he was simply curious. With a flicked of his bushy tail, Tam’s attention shifted to the female human. He had at first been intrigued by the bright colour of her hair- no. That was a lie. He had been drawn over by the food plain and simple. But how could he have resisted? Such delicious scents would have even drawn his master over had he had a sensitive enough nose, but alas, he found humans were utterly disabled. He walked steadily over to the female, sitting directly in front of her, propped up on his hind legs. Tam sniffed, then sniffed again. Something was defiantly different about this one. The scent was completely wrong if other humans were anything to go by.
Zeph looked over his shoulder, watching the Lunus’ wolf as it ate a couple of birds. He winced his nose scrunching slightly, but he shook it off. It was perfectly natural for an animal such as that to hunt- Tam did it. But some how it was different seeing such a large, unfamiliar animal pull the same stunt.
Attention being drawn once again to Tam, he rose an eyebrow. The masked creature was at on his hind legs, watching and sniffing Maki curiously. “What’s it, Tam?” He asked a hand running down the raccoon’s furry back. He looked up at Maki, tilting his head to the side in his typical, curious way. “You must smell interesting.” He guessed, shrugging it off and pulling Tam a little closer to him. He leant down slightly, his nose touching Tam’s cold one. “It’s rude to smell someone.” He muttered gently, rubbing his head affectionately. Zeph perked, “Oh yeah!” He exclaimed, having remembered something, he turned to look at Lunus. “You haven’t told us what your wolf’s name is.” He smiled softly.
