The book itself is several-hundred pages long, but we've picked out the most interesting and relevant entries to share with you here. So be sure to pay attention, will you? October 29, 2017, The idea of a human-animal shifter has been long dreamed of and fantasized about, but little action has ever been taken to take the steps towards making that fantasy a reality. "Foul!" the people cry out, for they are of the opinion that we are doing something that is inhumane. They feel as though man is a child of nature, and should not be altered in any way through scientific means. They are fools, ones who think too much with their hearts and too little with their minds. We are doing this for the sake of scientific advancement. If someone is harmed along the way, it is a loss to us, but in the end, was for the greater good. But no one will ever find out about this until it is too late. We have begun bringing in test subjects, ones who no one will ever miss. The majority are young, homeless adults who live on the street and have no family to miss them, no job to ask after them. They are happy enough to take what we give them; a place to sleep and three meals to eat every day. In fact, most are healthier now than they were when we found them. But soon, they will have to repay our....generosity.... January 29, 2025, The initial experimentation has been taking place for over a year now, but has not yielded positive results thus far. All test subjects have suffered negative effects caused by various surgeries, skin grafts, and exposure to radiation. Most die during the process itself, and those who live beyond it are far from healthy, and do not cling to life for very much longer. We have started off small, implementing various animal parts onto the human body, hoping that something will catch, but to no avail. Transplanted skins crack and flake painfully, all tail and ear additions grow infected over time as the body rejects it...it seems that we are going in the wrong direction with our methods. But only the other afternoon, it was suggested that we move on to mutating the embryo before birth... January 1, 2032, Although we have not yet obtained the perfect science for engineering a complete shift, we cannot say the experiments have thus far been a waste. The past few years have yielded pleasing and encouraging results, and we are certain we are taking steps in the right direction. The two classes that we do have, genus amicus and genus medius, are strong and healthy, and have proven that, even in their early age, they are able to interact on humane levels, and live peacefully together. The medius class have been noted to be slightly more vicious than the amicus, but we are hoping this behavior will subside in time. Every day, we hope that a new twist in the DNA will have the desired result, and yet, we only suffer slight disappointment when it does not, for it means that we have yet another prize to add to our growing collection of strong experiments. We have even taken to purposely recreating their DNA structure in order to yield more of them, for the mutations they have are never-ending, and it is just so very fascinating to see... August 19, 2040, Since engineering the first shifter five years ago, we have been able to create dozens more. To see them rolling around on the floor like normal children one minute only to see a wolf cub or songbird the next is truly intriguing. They play well with each other, and display very little hostile tendencies. Our very first experiments are on the verge of adolescence, and, though at first we worried how they would react to such small children, they only betrayed a natural curiosity, which actually turned into affection. They look out for the children, and even attempt to teach them things as we have taught them. But in spite of all our triumphs, the other scientists, as well as myself, are growing worried. The cursed media, who must stick their noses into everyone's business, apparently has a problem with our high security, and are desperate to see what's inside. But we will see to it that they never will. And should they catch a glimpse, well, we have several ways to silence people... May 26, 2046, This is not the end. Though we have been found guilty for crimes against humanity, we have enough money invested in this corporation to save our own skins, along with all of our research. But the experiments have been "freed", or so the public says. Those fools. They are not walking into a peaceful world, where they will be welcomed with open arms. They are embracing a society in which they will be discriminated against and hated for what they are. They have been done no service or good deed. One day, they will realize this. But it isn't our place to argue right now. We are more concerned with allowing the public to be distracted by these new additions to their society in order to give us the opportunity to fade into the background. And once we can be certain that they are no longer concerned with us, then it shall be business as usual. |
