Well. Her day had started out normal. But things seem to have just taken a turn for the worst. One; it had started to rain. Two; a group of teens had decided they didn’t like her waiting at the bus stop and so had taken to chasing her. But, aha! They had nothing on her. She loved free-running and so considered herself to be pretty damn good at it. And them? Well, they were just delinquents who only knew how to run straight or round things- Mayu on the other hand could jump over things while still keeping her speed.
It was exhilarating really. Forgetting the whole ‘being chased’ bit, she was having fun. Jumping over another hedge she found herself in the park. Tree’s lined the area of field neatly, a soft breeze blowing her lengthy hair around her body. Mayu skidded to a sudden halt when her feet first reached grass. There were multiple people around so she wasn’t to worried about the gang, they were generally to ball-less to even consider harassing someone in public. They really had lost their touch over the generations... Teens were no where near as frightening.
Of course, that could all be down to the fact that SHIFT experiments were considered more fear-worthy. It was offending in a way, people taking on look at the ears and the tail and taking flight or, even worse, being down right rude or threatening. There wasn’t anything wrong with sharing the genes of an animal... It wasn’t like she didn’t look one bit human. If she wore a at, like she was today, then the only way someone could tell was by noticing the tail; which took longer to notice then her cute little headset.
Mayu tried to ignore the atmosphere that usually hung around people when she passed by. She liked to stand out, prove her point in some way or form. Prove that she was till human, just a little more unique. The blithe female made her way steadily to a bench, sitting down and stroking a few hairs from red skin-tight jeans before readjusting her white beanie hat. The sun was out now, a warm feeling hitting her skin as Mayu leant back a little. It was nice being on her own outside. The fresh air filling her lungs, the warm sun kissing her skin... She couldn’t ask for more. And to be perfectly honest she needed it to help her forget her near encounter with the local thugs...

That was the problem with curling up for cat-naps in random spots. Your hat falls off, and when you get up drunk with sleep you forget to pick it up and just wander off without your precious headgear. SUCKAGE! And, Kean being one to take many a cat nap, he'd forgotten his hat somewhere or other. A hiss of irritation escaped through his teeth, making all the people walking near him shoot him startled looks, and shuffle sideways, putting more distance between him and themselves. Kean's tail swung out behind him, twitching in his annoyance and embarrassment. Someone called out "Here, kitty, kitty!" behind him, which he ignored, silently sticking his tongue out as he continued forward.
Kean recalled only two places he'd taken a nap in, one of which was the park. That was the most recent spot, anyway. In a tree. For a moment, he played with the thought of getting a cozy basket to sleep in with a pillow, until he realized his cat-side was taking over his thoughts a bit too much, and he could never really fit into a basket. Kean shook his head and twitched his ears, his annoyance growing. A low growl that had been rumbling in his throat without him realizing it ceased when he looked upon the park. The place looked lovely in the sunlight.
The park wasn't the only thing that looked lovely. There was a golden-haired teen who looked very lovely indeed parked on a bench. She had a hat on, which, Kean felt, was a shame as it didn't let her golden hair shine as much. Not that the girl really needed more shine. She had a fairly good figure and her eye color was amazing, and basking in the sunshine she was almost angelic, though a bit "street style" in the red jeans. Kean also noticed her tail, and he soon found a lazy grin spreading across his face.
Walking towards her, Kean leaned against a tree nonchalantly, looking ever more like a lazy tomcat with his eyes half-closed under the shade. His tail-tip curling and uncurling itself in a leisurely manner. Kean had all the time in the world, his pose said haughtily. "Hey, cutie," he said, playfully. "Love the tail." his tone indicating that he loved a lot more than just her tail. Perhaps it was the sheer prettiness of the park taking effect on him and dazzling him, but Kean was feeling flirty and the girl seemed to be the perfect target.

Closing her eyes Mayu breathed in a lung full of fresh, clean park air. After a regular day at the library, the park seemed to be the perfect escape. Most people kept to themselves- plus there was tons of room for everyone to spread around so the chance of anyone actually coming up close to her were slim. She wasn’t at all worried about people noticing her tail, the orange ringed addition swaying gently from side to side. Sighing softly, Mayu opened her eyes once again, head tilting backwards so she could watch lazy white clouds slid across the beautifully blue sky. She had to squint slightly, the sun blinding her. When she looked back down again black dots danced across her view. Mayu smile to herself, whenever that happened she could always see shapes in them. It was a childish amusement, if an amusement at all.
There are so many tree’s, was one of the thoughts that crossed her mind. It was tempting to climb up one and doze off in the speckled shade the leaves created. It would be so cool... And warm at the same time. The perfect temperature, and not only that it was out of the way of everybody. There wasn’t much else to do... Though Mayu was feeling slightly lazy at that point in time and though the urge had swept over her, her feet stayed planted on the floor stretched out in front of her, her sneaker-clad feet pointing inwards.
Mayu’s small ears twitched a little under her hat, the soft sound of foot-steps drawing closer. Her eyes trailed to the side and, catching a glimpse of red, her head followed her gaze. He was quite tall, handsome to say the least. Her attention instantly peaked as she noticed the ears, the tail. Mayu couldn’t help but smile at him, them being similar, but she turned away when she realised she had been staring. Even if they were the same, people still like to be on their own sometimes- like she did. Though this was one of the rare occasions where she wouldn’t mind talking. Him being like her. And being... Attractive. Who could blame her really?
When the man spoke Mayu couldn’t help but blush. Her tail flicked to the side gently, either out of embarrassment or perhaps joy, though it was probably a mixture of the two feelings. She was a sucker for a good-looking man, especially when they flirted. Alas, it was one of her weaknesses. After taking a few breathes and trying to get her flush to die down, she finally turned to look at the male. He was leaning casually against a tree, everything about him seemed cat-like, even had he not had the tail or the ears one might have described him as a tom-cat anyway. His whole aura seemed to stamp him as one. Smile gracing her face, her ears perked a little she thought of how to respond. “Hello~” Was the only think she could think of, social skills weren’t in her top best things she could do.

Kean blinked, an eyebrow raised. A blush was spreading across the girl's face. He couldn't help the small purr of amusement that rose in his throat. The girl was dressed to attract attention, but she seemed sort of shy nonetheless. He'd expect a girl with a build like hers to be a bit more outgoing, especially with those jeans. Kean was pretty sure that any straight male would be unable to resist staring at those legs, and possibly a few that weren't straight might quickly change their orientation.
At her greeting, however, Kean perked up. He'd thought for a moment that she might ignore him. His ears faced forward in a more attentive manner, and his grin broadened. That was pretty much all the invitation he needed to come closer. He pushed off the tree and ambled over to her, coming to sit down on the bench beside her. Her eyes looked even prettier up close, Kean noticed. Being a cat at heart, he didn't have much regard for anyone else's personal space, and he sat close enough to her for their shoulders to be nearly brushing, his eyes and expression becoming more alert and friendly.
Since the girl seemed at a loss of what to say, Kean decided to play gentleman. "Aww," Kean hummed, with tones of mild concern. "No need to be shy, I've ears and a tail just like you, so you can take me as a comrade. Or just take me." he added, jokingly winking at her. Perhaps he was being too flirty, some more sensible part of him suggested, but Kean didn't quite care at the moment. He hadn't had much willing company for a while, and he was almost aching for companionship, his ears twitching to face her and eager to catch her words should she speak. Yes, Kean was so obviously cat, and like a cat, he had the tendency to cling to people who were kind to him. He also had an almost uncanny ability to seek and find people who might be kind to him, though most times he was pretty sure he was only treated well because of his looks. Kean didn't really mind as much, though, since it was nice to be treated well no matter what the reason why. Being a selfish like most cats and many people, he would be happy just so long as he was getting pampered.
Leaning more towards her, Kean could feel a purr starting up in his chest and resonating outward as his kitty side took over, and his tail moved to curl around hers. It was warm out, and his mood was already starting to brighten up as he sat beside the pretty girl. He uttered a little, somewhat kittenish, Mya~ of happiness. "So, what's your name, then, comrade?" Kean asked, his head tilting so as to better see her face. "Mine's Kean. Not the greatest name, but it works." he grinned brightly at her. He was tempted to say something like, "Feel free to call it anytime, sweetie." but he feared that might be taking it a step too far.

Black rimmed, indigo eyes flicked to the mans shoulder. He was incredibly close and it just made her heart flutter more than it already was. Trying to calm her heart seemed like a hopeless cause... Once again her tail swished gently from side to side, though being awkward at her numb tongue, she loved the smell of him. Which sounded strangely perverted but it was a plain and simple fact. Mayu really couldn’t help the fact that she was more inclined to talk to someone and not mind them being so close when they smelt nice.
A soft, nervous giggle escaped her, and a hand instantly went to cover her mouth, hiding the smile that had spread across her face. Shy was an understatement. In fact, in most situations she was perfectly fine shoving her unwanted friend ‘shyness’ down the drain and acting completely herself. Flustered might have been the right word to describe it. Though she wasn’t sure. It was very rare for her to meet someone like herself, so openly. Experiments with obvious differences hid from others and tried to avoid attracting attention so they didn’t talk to others like them, and with normal people? They just avoided her all together. Though it wasn’t hard to miss the stray glances of men. When it came down to it, they always managed to push aside the tail and ears for a nice slice of arse and tits. It was kind of disturbing really... Mayu remembered a couple of times where she actually had to tell a man her eyes were actually on her head, not on her chest.
Take him. Oh yes please. She’ll take him any day. His cat-likeness was so cute she could just cuddle him, and his good-looks; they just added to the whole parcel. Mayu bit the side of her mouth, nibbling the inside of her mouth was a nervous habit, one she had tried- and failed- to drop. Her hands went back down to her lap, her fingers interlocking. Gaze now fully focused on the cat-man next to her she ears pricked up fully now; her hat no longer completely concealing them.
Mayu’s mouth curled into a grin- he even made little cat noises! She was in love. Seriously. “Mayu.” She didn’t at all mind the fact he was getting close, he didn’t seem like he meant anything by it really. And her ‘animal instincts’ weren’t screaming on full alert right about now. “Kean...” She repeated, tested out his name. Seeing how it rolled off her tongue, and then branded it into her memory. Though branding wasn’t at all necessary with a face like that, anyone would remember him. “So... Kean.” She said again, obviously liking his name- she hadn’t heard of it before. “What brings a kitty like you, out?” Mayu cocked her head to the side, smile still gracing her face. She bought her fee in closer to her, squirming around so she was at more of an angle, facing more towards Kean.

Kean couldn't help but feel a pinprick of disappointment when she hid her smile. He liked smiles. He liked being the cause of them, and when he was the cause he liked to see them. Who wouldn't? And she definitely had a nice one, he could tell just by looking at her eyes. His ears twitched as she giggled, his smile broadening as he heard the sweet sound, his ears twitching atop his head. Kean's eyes drifted up from her eyes and to her ears, which had now become visible under her hat. He could understand why she hid them. If she was hiding them at all, that was. It was sunny enough out for a hat to be needed.
Kean, himself, had never really been very proud of the fact that he resembled a cat in both appearance and personality. He'd tried to stop being so feline, but a lot of the time he couldn't. He still meowed at times, his purr started up when he brushed up against someone, and strings were always items of interest to him. He knew not everyone would like these traits, so he hid them. His ears under his hat, his tail around his waist, under his shirt or slipped down a pants leg. To Kean, hiding was often easier than actually showing what he was, and who didn't want an easier life? Kean certainly wanted one, no matter how far out of reach it looked. He was sure he'd reach it someday.
Aha, there it was! Mayu's grin really was very cute, just as he'd predicted. Cuter, even, than her adorable name. Kean's smile became a shade warmer. His ears straightened on his head, perking up each time his name was said, like a cat being called. Yet another feline habit he'd been unable to rid himself of. No matter how much he'd want to ignore someone, his ears would swivel in their direction the moment his name was said. When Mayu tilted her head to one side, Kean could scarcely contain his urge to rub shoulders with such a vision of cuteness. Instead, he glanced away for a second, momentarily speechless.
Regaining his confidence as quickly as it'd left him, Kean shrugged and answered her question. "Well," he said, his tone light. "Someone told me there was a rare beauty in the park today." his look made it clear enough who he meant. He then became slightly meek, and his tail swung out behind him as he twiddled his fingers in an embarrassed manner. "Plusss, I forgot my hat in a tree somewhere." Kean laughed somewhat sheepishly, his ears flattening nervously onto his head as though he was expecting to be scolded. "H-how about you? Why's a gorgeous girl like you all alone out here?" he regained his flirty confidence, losing the Naughty Kitten look.

With the sun beating down on her and her ears in an uncomfortable position under the garment, Mayu was beginning to think she should just take off her hat. Though since Kean was sat that she was beginning to feel more self-conscious than usual. A hand reached up rubbing behind one of them one eye closed as she became partially blinded by the sun. Maybe leaving her hat on wouldn’t be such a bad thing actually. She flicked her tail, the indecision clear on her face as she pondered on what to do. Sitting there in silence sure as hell gave her plenty of thinking time- it was either that or feel the ever increasing embarrassment and self-consciousness.
Still smiling, Mayu turned her gaze back to connect with Kean’s. When he finally spoke up again she couldn’t help but blush- and to think she’d just gotten rid of her previous one! This was definitely going to be on of those times when she was just a light shade of pink every time he said something even remotely complementary. It was typical really, and annoying, how she couldn’t keep a normal colour in her face. Her gaze wavered for a moment before she looked at something behind Kean; it was always harder to hold someone’s gaze when one was trying to keep from turning into a puddle on the floor.
It was only when she heard his voice again that she looked back, a quiet snort escaping her as she tried not to laugh at him. She didn’t know why it was funny but the image of him sleeping in a couple of tree’s- much like she did- was to amusing. And to top it all off, he looked like he was about to be told off, like a little child who’d done something they weren’t supposed to and knew it. Ah. She couldn’t. The laugh seemed to just escape her, a little squeak coming from her maw as she tried to breath in normally. Even after trying to stop herself she was still giggling. “Sorry. Sorry.” She managed to say, “Its just-“ Really, she always imagined things to be funnier than what they were. Someone could say something and she’d be laughing for ages, imagining the scene over and over. It was ridiculous, but she couldn’t help it.
Regaining herself, Mayu cleared her throat, a wide grin on her face. “W-well...” She paused to think about it for a moment, “I did have the loving company of a few street thugs.” She stuck out her tongue playfully, “Until I beat them in a race.” Ahh. Those guys had lost her a few minutes after starting to chase her. Such fail. Mayu finally decided to remove her hat, and after placing it in her lap she smoothed down the messed up strands, sorted out of fringe then gently ran her fingers along the back of her ears. All was fine, and her ears were certainly thankful that they weren’t pushing against material anymore.

Aha! He'd caught her laugh this time! And it was every bit as cute as he'd expected! Though, Kean couldn't quite keep his face from turning slightly red with embarrassment. Or it could have been more that her laugh was cute enough to make him blush. Either way, feeling the slight pink color burn across his face made him even more embarrassed, and he fidgeted a bit, unused to such a thing happening to him. Usually it was the other way around, the others were blushing and he was laughing. Still, he quickly tried to brush away his embarrassment, his tail flicking.
Kean laughed his own soft laugh as Mayu tried to apologize. "Hey, don't worry about it," he purred. "I was probably making a funny face, huh. I can make loads more if you give me a mirror." his purr seeped into his laugh, making it sound as if he was laughing in front of a fan. It was always strange when that happened, his purr putting a constant rumble into his voice. It could even be felt shaking through his torso and neck, much like in a real cat. Kean had no real control over it, however, and it often started up all on its own.
When Mayu mentioned the thugs, however his tail bristled. They were chasing her? Were they blind? She wasn't the sort of girl to be chased, she was the sort everyone was supposed to give flowers to! A growl rumbled in place of his purr. "Next time, if they chase you again come straight to me." Kean ordered. He knew she could probably take care of herself, but the news that his new friend was being chased worried him. "They might get more persistent." his tail lashed behind him in his ire. Kean relaxed a bit after speaking, however. After all Mayu seemed to finally be getting used to him being around, and he didn't want to make her awkward again.
At the sight of her ears, however, Kean couldn't keep from uttering a delighted Nya! "Your ears are adorable!" he announced and, unable to help himself, he reached out to stroke them, his purr re-starting. Unlike his own, they didn't blend in with the rest of her hair, and the cuteness of it could make cosplayers around the world scream for envy. "A bit like kitten ears!" Kean said, his tone a bit thoughtful. He'd never really seen a red panda before, so he couldn't quite place what sort of animal he was linked to. He guessed fox.

It was amusing when the tables seemed to turn, him the one blushing and her the one laughing. It was nice to laugh freely and just being around Kean seemed to make her feel slightly giddy. It was probably his good-looks. Or possibly something to do with the fact he was the same as her... Or his good-looks. Mayu smoothed some creases that had appeared in her brightly coloured jeans, hair falling over her shoulders as she leant forwards a bit. She noticed his fidgeting but wasn’t really bothered by it, her smile still gracing her face, cheeks tinted a light shade of pink.
Mayu giggled softly, not stopping herself from nodding in reply. “Blame my imagination.” She poked out her tongue. “If you hear someone randomly laughing its probably going to end up being me.” She sighed, remembering times when she had easily broken the silence just by remembering something someone had said not long ago. Mayu swiftly decided she liked Kean’s laugh. It was so typically kitty-like and cute, the purr underlying the laugh... Just so cute. Her smile was positively widened by the pleasing sound, Mayu loved making people happy- even if she wasn’t the one who was responsible it was always good to see a smiling face.
Oho! Mayu would gladly run to Kean. But maybe not with a gabble of thugs to boot. “I can easily out run them lot~” She waved a dismissive hand, touched by how much he was worrying over something so simple- it happened quite often to those who were so obviously shifters . “Thanks.” She smiled to him, “But day so dumbbb...” Somehow she pulled off some form of chav accent- twisted one so to speak, but one none the less. Mayu laughed at how stupid she had sounded. “They hit an obstacle and just bump into over and over again thinking ‘why won’t it move out my way?’” She giggled, the image amusing. “I just jump over them.”
A furious blush spread across Mayu’s face Kean’s little noises adorable and his announcement a little embarrassing. She didn’t really move away when he stroked one of her ears, the little red panda feature flattening slightly. She didn’t know why but it always felt so damn nice having someone do that. She laughed, ears perking up once again, Mayu giving them a little wiggle. “Red Panda.” She told him, “Not many people can guess.”

It was true, however, Mayu's momentary fake-accent could have made anyone bite their tongues to keep from squealing in their adoration and whip out cam-corders. Kean only wished he had one. There were certain levels of cuteness that could possibly drive people to insanity, or at least an unhealthy obsession, and that came pretty damn close. Kean could scarcely keep from cuddling her, he glanced away for a moment and scanned the surroundings, attempting to try and resist the urge to do something he'd probably regret.
Kean's gaze soon returned to Mayu, however, as he spoke. "The thing about thugs is that they always think they can deal with things by force, which really gets people nowhere." he nodded sagely. "Talking is so much easier, and a lot less violent." said the cowardly cat. Kean hated to get beaten up, as he'd often been by many of the people he'd annoyed into a frenzy, but in a battle of words he was sure he could always win. Well, nearly always. If not win, he could at least be annoying enough to be able to get smug at his opponent's anger.
It was only when Mayu wiggled her ears so adorably and told him they were of Red Panda origin, that Kean really could no longer help himself. Her blush made her absolutely irresistible. With a Chya! he curled his arms around her shoulders and drew her into a hug, nuzzling her ears and purring loudly as his more kitty side took over. Cats, when seeing something they want right in front of them, would reach out and snatch the desired object without paying attention to, say, the string that led upwards from the object to an overhanging cage which would ultimately snap if said object were touched. His tail wagged joyfully behind him as he cuddled Mayu close.
Kean's grip on her was loose, however, to allow her to wriggle away should she get too uncomfortable. "Sorry," he hummed, nibbling on her ears. "You're just too cute!~" he grinned. His cat side made him able to get super-affectionate even to people he'd only met a short while ago without feeling any real awkwardness himself. He was much like a stray out on the street, you've only got to get close enough and pet it, then it melts into a purring mass under your fingers.
