FULL NAME; Darius Mitchell Blackthorn ALIAS; the raptor AGE; 23 GENDER; male ORIENTATION; straight CLASS; medius SHIFT SPECIES; ictinaetus malayensis BIRTH DATE; September 5th GENETICS EYES; green HAIR; black WEIGHT; 98 lbs (bir bones make his skeleton lighter than a normal human's) HEIGHT; 5'3" VOICE; normally an average tone, though it can get a bit crackly when agitated FACE CLAIM; Mahiro Atori from Hiiro no Kakera DESCRIPTION; Always having been somewhat small in stature, Darius is not necessarily one to be overlooked. His body may not be the strongest, but that doesn't mean that he can't do what he wants to do. While his frame may be strong and weak, the rest of his features stand out enough to make him recognizable. His boyish faces is framed by wild looking black hair, with a pair of bright green eyes contrasted, only partially hidden beneath his bangs. His general figure has always been on the slim side, in fact he is quite athletic. As for his clothing, he prefers to wear clothes that move easily and are aerodynamic. Since he was born with DNA from Black Eagle, he has a pair of fairly beautiful black wings sticking out from his back just at his shoulders. As they are part of his anatomy, he must accommodate them by either cutting holes into his shirts, or just wearing baggy shirts over them. PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION LIKES; food, fighting, sports, music DISLIKES; rules, being singled out, being judged, getting beaten STRENGTHS; speed, agility, organization, leading others WEAKNESSES; physically weak, easily angered QUIRKS; his voice cracks when he gets excited or irritated, he bounces his right leg when he is nervous or bored FEARS; being shunned GOALS; getting a foothold in society for the other kids who were experiments PERSONALITY; As with all people, Darius has a very complex personality that can't be described by simple bullet points. For the most part, he comes off as your average 'cool' kid. He has strength of heart and mind enough to have the confidence to do what he thinks he should and to stick up for himself and those he is willing to stick up for. While he does have a good heart deep down, his actions don't do his goals any justice as the other half of his main personality would be your 'bad boy' persona. He wants things done his way and no other. Those that Darius holds closest to him would be all of the other kids who were born from the science experiments and called shifters. Whether he knows a shifter or not, he will not hesitate to stick his neck out for them if they need him to. Darius can't stand the normal humans who discriminate the shifters just because of what they are. Of these, he is even closer to those who have joined him in his cause. However, most of these are still nothing but followers, shifters who practically cling to him because of what he's trying to do for them. A shorter list still are those that make up his 'inner circle' so to speak. These are the shifters that he has known since he was a child, those who have been by his side through thick and thin during the roughest period of any childhood. Though he has those he is close to, Darius also has those that he simply can't stand. These include the various 'citizens' that he also grew up with, but chose to bully him for being different. These individuals are on the top of the young man's list of people to either punish or convert. These people are met with just as much hatred and ill will as is shown towards him and others of his kind. The last main group of people Darius acts differently around would be the citizens who seem to be accepting of him and his kind. Though he hasn't actually met many of these people, he knows they exist, and tends to act very civil when around these kinds of people. He will mind his manners, watch his words as well as his tone, and be as courteous as possible in order to increase his well wishers and supporters amongst those who were born more naturally. CHRONOLOGICAL TIMELINE CURRENT RESIDENCE; none - he stays wherever he can find a place to sleep CURRENT OCCUPATION; thief/gang leader HISTORY; After a great deal of research on various types of birds, it was found that the bigger the bird, the better the chance of survival for the DNA spliced experiments. One such bird is the Black Eagle that is normally found found in the wilds of Asia. As a bird of prey, it was seen as one of the stronger breeds, and thus an acceptable species to combine with human DNA. Spliced and combined in a lab, the group of new test subjects was studied as they all began to grow and develop. The infant that was born was covered in the typical downy feathers of a baby bird. Though the baby boy's 'mother' was slightly disturbed by this and the fact that she had been used to bear a science experiment, her curiosity got the better of her. Once the baby was cleaned up, she asked if she could just touch him. Of course once she had, she realized just how soft that down really was. Compelled by the human urge to hold something fluffy and soft, she ended up holding him, and stroking the baby feathers that adorned his head and back. Though the scientists seemed to dismiss the boy as a failed experiment, the woman seemed far too intrigued to allow their pessimistic rambles about how the boy had wings to bother her. Eventually, she named the boy and decided that she was going to keep him. The only problem was that the scientists whisked the boy away and sent the woman on her way - without the child. Years of research and more experiments and the scientists had a decent file on the boy's development. They found that the boy was always smaller than the average height curve, and lighter than the average weight curve for other human boys his age, even below that of other shift children. The found that the Eagle DNA that he possessed meant that his skeletal structure was about halfway between that of a human's and that of a bird's. His bones were hollow, but still sturdy enough to support his weight. He also seemed to have a great deal fewer bones than most others, the majority of them having fused together, or just not even developed at all, especially in his chest. His sternum covers most of the front of his rib cage to act as a bit of a shield, and he has about 2/3 the number of ribs compared to normal. As for his spine, the thoracic vertebrae that are located at the back of the ribs have all fused into three longer bones making that area stronger, and only slightly less flexible than normal. This gives extra strength for the wing joints that are connected to both his spine and shoulders. As for his wings, they make the total number of bones in his entire skeletal system greater than average. Their structure is that of any large bird, only large enough to carry his weight. His wingspan has always been greater than his height, but that is also normal amongst birds. When he was five, he along with all of the other test subjects, were released to various orphanages as a part of the public's outcry of torture. The moment the news that all of the test subjects were released, the mother that he had never known was going from orphanage to orphanage trying to find her son. All she had was a name and a brief description of what he looked like when he was born - green eyes and black feathered wings on his back. Eventually, she found him and took him home with little fuss since she was his birth mother and there didn't seem to be anyone who wanted him - especially since the children had only just been placed in the orphanages. The simple fact that the boy wasn't fully human meant that his regular checkups were a bit difficult at first. The biggest problem was in finding a doctor that was willing to look him over and make sure he was healthy. Once they found one, the road of tests began anew as his averages of height, weight and body temperature had to be recalculated. The office managed to get just the most basic of health related data from the company, and it served as enough for a baseline. In order to better understand his physiology, his new doctor took various blood samples from him on occasion for various types of tests. Though he was going to so many tests, Darius seemed to be fairly happy for a little boy with no friends. All he knew was his daily life of his parents and the doctors. However, his parents decided to take a gamble and put him through school. They did their best to hide his wings, but it was difficult when the boy didn't understand the consequences that came with being different. Of course the lesson came swiftly and harshly from his new classmates who tormented him not only for having wings, but for being so small. At first Darius reacted to it in the same way that any other child would react to being made fun of - he cried to his parents that the kids at school were being mean to him. The real problem now came to light - there was nothing his parents could do about what happened at school due to the widespread negative views on the test subjects that had both human and animal DNA, especially those who actually showed anatomy of their animal counterparts. In the end, Darius had to learn how to deal with the humiliation on his own. During his early years, he merely turned the other cheek and did his best to ignore those who were tormenting him. Never lashing out against the other kids who were all so mean took it's toll not only on Darius, but his parents as well. It got so bad, in fact, that his parents decided to move to a completely different state just to get him away from the negative atmosphere. The only problem was that the negative atmosphere was everywhere they went, just manifested on new faces and with new acts of cruelty. Finally, when Darius reached middle school, he began to fight back. Instead of hiding his wings, he cut holes in the backs of his shirts just to show them off and use them when he found the need for them. In doing so, he found that he could easily scare and torment those that tormented him for years. What he felt now was liberation - not only could he stick up for himself, but for the other shift children, and even turn the tables against the bullies. Of course this began to backfire when the normal children went home to their parents telling about a boy with wings that was picking on them. The next time the family moved it was because their son had been expelled from the school for bullying the other children. Now old enough to see the flaws in the system that expelled him for bullying but did nothing when he was the victim, he vowed to never bow his head in defeat again. He began to look for others like him who were singled out and victimized, and convinced them to join his little revolutionary group to turn things around and stick up for themselves and each other. He figured that if he could turn things around for himself alone, that if he involved more shifters, the result would be larger as well. Over the remainder of his years in middle school and high school, his group of crusaders eventually turned into something more like a gang than anything. As he is now an adult, he has made the decision to sell his own medical records to the company that used him as a test subject. With an eye for the future, Darius plows ahead, pushing down anyone who gets in his way, and picking up anyone who is willing to help him on his mission. Though he is getting assistance from the company, he still doesn't feel as though it is enough, and as he is unable to get a job due to his somewhat hostile nature, he has turned to theft. However, his thievery is more on the flamboyant side as he prefers to make a flashy getaway and disappear into the night. After selling his medical records, he figured that he was grateful to the scientists that gave him wings. As his own way to repay them, he manages to get the medical records of the members in his gang and isn't opposed to doing favors for them. In fact, they have found that it's easier to keep tabs on the test subjects if they're sticking close to him. |
