The child is only a few hours old, but constantly changes shape every few seconds as naturally as though it were breathing. We can only hope this will eventually stabilize as it gains control over its motor skills... Genus Solidus (from Latin, complete) is a sub-class of the SHIFT experiments, and are commonly known simply as shifters. In their human form, one would never be able to guess that they possess not-so-average DNA; they look the same as the next human being, with no mutations in the slightest. Because they look so human-like, this class suffers from the least discrimination, and are offered a vaster range of opportunities than the other classes. This serves to make their relationship with the others strained and slightly antagonistic. While in their animal form, the only thing that betrays them is their human ability to rationalize - they are far smarter than the average beast. But other than this, one would never be able to tell the difference between a regular dog and a shifter. Their personalities are very human-like, and range widely from compassionate and kind to cruel and vicious. GENUS MEDIUS september 5, 2029: in our search to create the perfect shifter, a new creature has been born, one who appears to be half human, half animal. Most common features are ears and tails, and, more often than not, they possess a fierce personality that is almost borderline hostile... Genus Medius (from Latin, half) is another sub-class of the SHIFT experiments, and are typically known as hybrids and halfbreeds. During the search for the perfect shifter, scientists stumbled upon this recipe for danger by mixing perhaps a little too much animal DNA into human genetics. The result was something that was neither human nor animal, but a mix of both. The most common is a humanoid figure with mutations such as ears, tails, wings, or claws, though occasionally there are those who are covered in fur or scales instead of skin. These hybrids, while perhaps the most beautiful and intriguing of the three classes, unfortunately are oppressed the most due to their obvious mutations, and often have to suffer through the most menial of tasks. Due to the fact that their genetics are so warped by animal genes, their personalities can be quite volatile and vicious, and they are prone to act like animals in fits of rage or any situation the produces strong emotion. GENUS AMICUS july 9, 2030: until this moment, most experiments have either been failures, or classified as half-breeds. now, however, it appears that the DNA has split, leading to the birth of both a human and an animal. They cannot communicate, but appear to be closely connected nonetheless... Genus Amicus (from Latin, companion) was created not even a year after genus medius, and is another sub-class of the SHIFT experiments. Due to an unexpected split in the DNA, the animal and human were born separately. The human half betrays no bestial mutations, and their animal counterpart does not display human tendencies. However, the pair is always closely connected - the animal will always fight to defend their human half, and the human does not like to be separated for long from their animal shadow. Though they can live without each other, it should be noted that the survivor will often sink in depression. When it comes to social status, the are not as favored as genus solidus, but do not suffer the degrees of oppression put on genus medius. It usually narrows down to the form of the animal companion. An Amicus experiment with a mouse companion, for example, is more likely to get an office job than one with a tiger companion. CIVILIANS Civilians are the ignorant folk who stroll the streets, thinking that they're the only ones out there with intelligence. The introduction of the experiments certainly proved them wrong. The problem is, some of them are taking the shifter integration a little harder than others, and are quick to resort to even violent measures... Civilians are the the body of people whose lives were never touched by the SHIFT corporation until the experiments were released. Now, suddenly, their lives are in slight uproar. Over the years, there have been harsh debates about the place of the genus children in society, with some supporting their existence and others not so sympathetic. Though some tension has died down over the past few years, most of the crowd is still torn between acceptance and rejection. As civilians are not the products of experimentation, they do not posses mutations or a shift form; they are normal people who live normal lives on a day to day basis. They can have any job you can imagine up for them, from a police officer to a school teacher, and their personalities are only as limited as your thoughts. THE CORPORATION july 9, 2030: until this moment, most experiments have either been failures, or classified as half-breeds. now, however, it appears that the DNA has split, leading to the birth of both a human and an animal. They cannot communicate, but appear to be closely connected nonetheless... The SHIFT Corporation is a name that has gained it's own infamy over the past few decades. Originally a company for manufacturing electronics and appliances, they grew interested in human experimentation after suffering monetary losses due to other rising businesses - they believed they could sell their formulas for those who would be interested in creating mutant children. Though they succeeded in producing three different classes, their doings were discovered by the media, and they were found guilty of crimes against humanity. Though they had to release there experiments into freedom, they won the right to keep their data and machinery. For a year or so, they remained quiet, but soon returned to their old ways. Corporation members are scientists, guards, receptionists, or company representatives. Their personalities can be a wide range, but they are typically stoic, and tend to favor logic over emotion. |
