He doesn’t look physically strong, having always been virtually incapable of building significant muscle mass. However he is toned and many are surprised at how capable he is when it comes to physical duties. He is as lean as he is tall, a regal countenance and a rigid, unyielding frame. His features are sharp and he always tries to look dapper no matter what attire he adorns. Although the green streaks on his face are a somewhat unalike to his personal style he can do nothing about them. |

PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
PLAYING GUITAR
[li] Although April never went to school for music nor can he actually write or identify written scores, he can and does play the guitar when the urge strikes him. He plays mostly by ear, trail and error or watching someone else do it a few times.
WARM PLACES/THINGS
[/li][li] Because of his physical condition April has difficulty maintaining a proper body temperature on his own. It is a fatal flaw at worst, an inconvenience at best. So naturally he tries to stay in places that are warm or wear fabrics that are warm. In moments of absolute desperation he might even latch onto a person until he siphons enough heat from them to sustain himself.
SILVER JEWELRY
[/li][li] Something about the way it shines makes him all giddy inside. Probably illogical since April doesn’t actually wear accessories, not even a watch, but he ends up collecting it all the same.
RECEIVING GIFTS
[/li][li] Everybody likes getting presents right? Well April likes it more than others. Receiving a gift reaffirms the notion that somebody likes him – even better if they are aware that he is a Shifter and the giver is human and the gift is nice. It doesn’t have to be wrapped in pretty paper or tied with glossy strings, just a little something that he can keep around and hold makes him feel a little better whenever he’s in a bad mental state.
BEING TOUCHED
[/li][li] Of course this is solely reserved for those who can be said are liked by April. If you are a shifter and you actively touch him you may pull back with less than what you started with. April wasn’t much of a tactile person before undergoing the experiments but has become someone who seeks comfort from people, comforting and acceptance and he believes he gains that through touching. As if through that physical contact it lessens his monsters and strengthens his lost humanity.
DISLIKES;
SHIFTERS
[/li][li] April has a virulent hate for all shifters despite the fact that he has now joined their ranks, albeit unwillingly. He sees them as no better than the crude beasts that they turn become when then change forms. In his mind they are filthy abominations that should be annihilated before they bring about an epidemic – in spite of the fact that shifting is not a communicable disease. Those individuals whose features are not so obvious are hated all the more for their ability to hide in plain sight, something that he can no longer do.
SOLID FOODS
[/li][li] He has no choice but to dislike any and all solid foods due to the fact that his body has trouble breaking down the compounds within what should be otherwise edible. Eating normally is an action that April sorely misses and mourns the loss of his ability to do so. Unfortunately, foods he had previously been able to consume without issue now make him physically ill and thus all of what he can process is liquids and special supplement drinks with all the essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients that he needs to function.
FLORESCENT LIGHTING
[/li][li] Seemingly a tradeoff for the abilities that he gathered from the experiments conducted, April has developed a strong dislike of most lighting. Somehow though artificial lighting causes more problems than natural sunlight. As to why this is he has no answer and neither due his tormentors, they assume it is to do with the DNA he was infused with.
BEING CONTROLLED
[/li][li] He loathes being under someone’s thumb nearly as much as he hates shifters. Although presently he seems to have little choice but to be the lackey or otherwise living toy for whoever hires or takes care of him, April is certainly afraid and livid whenever he feels oppressed or in a position where he cannot act on his own without first consulting someone who is supposed to be superior.
HIGH FREQUENCY SIGNALS
[/li][li] In response to his greater hearing abilities, signals that are otherwise undetectable by the average person are earsplitting for April. Radio signals especially. It is the motivation behind his purchase of headphones.
STRENGTHS;
NIGHT VISION
[/li][li] While bright, especially artificial, light are a great hindrance April’s vision proves infallible in spaces where there isn’t much or any luminous source. An asset of his mixed genetics April sees with unfathomable definition during the twilight hours of in areas where most would require equipment to make use of their optical sense.
DEXTERITY
[/li][li] Despite having been confined for nearly three years, in which time he was given few opportunities and had little desire to pursue his extensive martial arts training, April has not yet lost his touch. Sometimes in comprehensibly fast, the man functions on a level of agility that humans can never achieve naturally. In some respects this adroitness makes the already quick April Seymour a man who seems to flow like an illusion. His reaction time is lower thus making it easier to evade as well as attack if it is necessary.
ARTISTIC
[/li][li] He doesn’t look it, certainly doesn’t act like it, but April is a surprisingly creative soul. The man has an intense passion for painting, a skill that almost seems wasteful in a man whose profession is stationed among violence leaving him few opportunities to exercise his talent. Now though it has become a much needed comfort and activity where he can stabilize himself, retreating to a source of familiarity that anchors him whenever he feels he’s drifting away from who he believes himself to be.
HEARING
[/li][li] Another acquired skill from exuberant splicing is April’s auditory recognition. Alike the bat DNA that has been encoded into his genes, April’s hearing is far sharper and more accurate than a humans. Supersonic waves can be both felt as well as registered which makes it both easy and difficult to do his job. For although hearing your enemy, detecting the slightest differences in the atmospheric current and in people, he also has to filter around universal sounds and other such noises that are not important, not to mention loud noises and high frequencies stun him.
WEAKNESSES;
MENTAL INSTABILITY
[/li][li] There are often occurrences where April is unable to think rationally, at least what one would consider rational for a person. He adamantly believes that the DNA encrypted into his own has birthed a second entity within him and that it actively tries to lure him into its madness. April also suffers from many inexplicable anxieties; spaces where there is no free flowing air are sources of terror. He’s jumpy and is a constant ball of wound up nerves and pent up energy.
EMOTIONALLY VULNERABLE
[/li][li] Having always been a respectfully sensitive individual, April’s emotional reactions have taken a nosedive to the point of being considered radical. He is easily swayed and susceptible to persuasion by those whom he needs only think are stronger than he is or that can do him harm in his mind. His fears are often baseless and his moments of rage nonsensical. His moods swings can be unpredictable and violent making him a liability if not in the right environment and among the right people.
BLOOD
[/li][li] A most hated and reviled weakness because April strongly believes that it further proves his mental regression and loss of humanity to both himself as well as others. While he, the man, does not have any fondness for blood, his body craves and cannot do without frequent consumption of it. Something that occurred in the trials of his ‘rebirth’ made it so that his body does not produce a sufficient amount of red and white blood cells and essentially he could very well die because without regular transfusions. However, the fact of the matter is that he has also acquired a hunger for it. Seeing it or smelling it rattles his resolve and weakens his ability to rationalize as a person and typically bring about lapses of sanity.
HABITUAL
[/li][li] April, despite being a man of few consistencies, tends to do repeat certain actions or to choose previously employed logic to different scenarios. In essence, things that he has done before and that he is comfortable with are done more frequently than others. Touching the right corner of a table, grabbing the right arm of people he likes, rubbing his throat when he’s nervous, and countless other seemingly trivial things that he does routinely.
QUIRKS;
CORNER TOUCHING
[/li][li] For whatever reason in the world April has to touch the right corner of a table while he’s passing it, even he doesn’t understand the urge and has identified it on more than one occasion and tried to stop himself. It’s simply something that’s ingrained in him to do.
PETTING
[/li][li] Ever since he was little he’d loved animals, specifically the ones with fur on them and since them whenever there was an animal around he just had to pet it. So now, a full-grown man, he can sometimes be stopped when he sees a dog or cat and almost always succumbs to the urge to pet it. Likewise he also likes to be petted.
FEARS;
WINDOWLESS ROOMS
[/li][li] In the room where he was kept during the experimentation April could never tell whether it was day or night or how many days had past. With his sense of time stolen and the hours blending almost seamlessly without any indicators to tell him otherwise, he has become heavily reliant on being able to see outside now that he’s been released. Any room where there are no windows he will not enter.
PAST RELATIONSHIPS
[/li][li] He could have died three years ago when he was shot on duty but didn’t, both because of excellent treatment at the companies private hospital as well as due to the experimentation he underwent. Having been missing for three years now and no longer as human as he once was, April is terrified of reunions from his past, especially good relationships. He believes that if they know of what he has become they will condemn him.
HOSPITALS & MEDICAL FACILITIES
[/li][li] Its pretty understandable why a man who was unlawfully held in a scientific facility, confined to a room and picked at like he was a creature without sentient capabilities, that he’d have a fear of anything that looks remotely like the place where he was kept.
PUTTING VALUE FOR OTHERS
[/li][li] Nothing in this world is sacred. The boundaries of a persons rights and their will can be purchased in this day and age and anything that is valued can be lost and stolen. April has learned this first hand from both his family and his younger sister. Having both been betrayed and lost something precious to him he no longer has trust in most people but worse yet is that he is afraid to have any value placed in them because he fears they’ll be taken from him.
GOALS;
RESTORING HIS HUMANITY
[/li][li] It’s an impossibility to be sure but it is something to shoot for no matter how unattainable. It’s one of the few motivations he still has to stay living and not commit suicide like it was initially feared. Right now he still believes heavily in his Catholic faith and clings to it.
DESTROYING THE FACILITY
[/li][li] He has always felt that the SHIFT program was an abominable waste of resources on something that went against the designs of nature and has reviled the facilities used for the purpose of creating monsters. Now that he has experienced them first hand he wants them destroyed at all costs.
PERSONALITY;
IRRATIONAL
[/li][li] There are instances where April is either, not thinking like a person or seems incapable of thinking in relative sanity. At some point during his abduction he…well, lost his mind. He now has lapses in rational thought, where his fears control his actions and leave him struggling with his inner demons or getting emotional over things that might otherwise be trivial.
EMPATHETIC
[/li][li] April has always and forever will be, a person who can identify with the turmoil of other from all walks of life. He’s always been considered a gentle soul, an interesting and almost redundant concept for a person who pursued a career in the military. But that aside April is very compassionate and sometimes tends to care too much for those around him, overextending himself with acts of philanthropy.
PRIDEFUL
[/li][li] The name Seymour once held a great deal of meaning to him and while now he hardly gives a damn about who he’s related to his overall pride as a person hasn’t diminished. April still holds himself in very high regard, believing that he hasn’t lost an inch on the social hierarchy that his family held and will not stand to be disrespected.
EMPHATIC
[/li][li] He’s tenacious with a capital T. If April is hired to accomplish a task and he undertakes the mission he’ll undoubtedly see it through until he is physically incapable of ensuring completion. He is a man driven by his morals – or was and retains the shadow of such principles.
METICULOUS
[/li][li] That which is rushed cannot be expected to be anything other than mediocre. When it comes to planning scenarios, projecting possible outcomes, or taking on assignments whether professional or otherwise, April knows the value of doing things slowly and completely to ensure that the ability to fall through are reduced.
SHY
[/li][li] April honestly doesn’t know how to act around people after having been thought for dead for three years during which time he didn’t exactly engage in meaningful conversation with his abductors. His social skills have been shaken and his fear of further mistreatment and betrayal has put him on the defensive and made it so that he’s timid and doesn’t speak well when spoken to. If you don’t receive a one-word answer consider it an achievement.
SPITEFUL
[/li][li] He may be quiet and a little skittish but that has no affluence on how he may feel toward certain individuals. April’s anger is something not equally quelled, if he believes that he has been wronged in any way he will hold it against whomever wronged him until the day he feels avenged. This aspect of himself also progresses into his speech – toward Shifters mostly. If he becomes aware of a Shifter the encounter can be anything but pleasant.

CURRENT OCCUPATION; Personal Bodyguard
HISTORY;
April Ulaya, from the moment of his creation, was decidedly not someone the Ulaya family wanted to have affiliated with them. The reason behind his all but total expulsion from the family was the fact that he was born from the current head of the Ulaya family and a mistress whom was to remain a secret. His father had exhibited no intention to adopt the illegitimate child into his family once he was made aware of its existence and even went so far to attempt to have the unborn child aborted before the fetus developed into what would be considered a human being. His mistress on the other hand was overjoyed that she would have a child and was appalled by the idea, wholeheartedly refusing to do what her lover requested of her.
The mistress, knowing that April would receive no love from his father, went into hiding and craftily slipped between the cracks of the Ulaya family’s surveillance to have her child. It is still unclear where she went for five years and what the motive behind her exposing her amorous lover to the ravenous media. Some speculate she was after the money that the government would forcibly pressure the father to give to the mother of his child. It is also just as likely that she wanted to hurt him for having suggested she kill him during development. Whatever the reason the mistress put April into the spotlight when he was five years old and brought the publics attention to the scandalous affair the Ulaya Head had engaged in behind his wife’s back.
After three months of heckling and negative responses to the neglect he’d pushed onto his flesh and blood, Venicio Ulaya made a bid to appease the masses by officially adopting April into his family. Of course, the long overdue endeavor did little to placate the public and the event had significantly damaged his reputation and political stance but it hushed a fair amount of mouths that had been harping on about it. With a little more money he forced the issue to quiet but still had the illegitimate bastard son of his to deal with.
His wife, a woman who had married Venicio out of convenience, had no unwelcoming sentiments toward the new addition to the family and in fact was considered a saint for the role she played in this fiasco for she sincerely accepted the five year old despite him not being her own. Alice Ulaya even went as far as keeping in touch and inviting April’s mother to the estate for holidays and parties so that the boy would never forget who have sheltered him.
His father was almost always in a dour mood mostly because in the five years of April’s absence he’d had his own son, Alistair Ulaya who was two years younger. In truth there should have been no initial problem with inheritance of his business, however he felt strongly that if the boy lived under him he might feel entitled to it. So Venicio did as much as possible to discourage the boy from ever truly believing he was part of his family, of course only when there was no one around to hear him.
April was a very perceptive boy for his age and quickly learned that he was not wanted in this household by one of its most important people but he desperately wanted to be accepted so he not only endured the treatment from his father but tried actively to better himself academically. He pursued education like a lifeline, assuring himself that if he did well his father wouldn’t see him as ‘his bastard son’. He excelled in his academics and participated in as many activities as his body and time would allow, becoming well rounded, articulate and gregarious.
Alistair, his younger half-sibling, shadowed his big brother whenever they were together and adored his elder sibling dearly. April would often teach him little things or help him with his homework whenever they were together. The two shared a wonderful bond. It was when April turned ten that the news of another possible addition was made aware of him – this one of course another full-blooded Ulaya. Caroline Ulaya, his baby sister, was an instant celebrity both in and out of the home and the brothers cherished her dearly.
Sadly when he had turned fifteen he was enrolled in a military academy by his father and while Alice protested vehemently about the decision, Venicio Ulaya had badgered April into accepting it beforehand. April attended the rather prestigious academy and gradually learned to enjoy its regiment. He still kept in touch with his younger brother who would email him pictures of their sister and keep him updated. When he was twenty he’d graduated from the Academy and immediately found work as a personal bodyguard to one of the CEO’s at the SHIFT corporation where his father was also a member of. It dismayed Venicio to see April still excelling while his own son wasn’t exhibiting nearly as much promise.
Galled by this he could only bide his time and wait for April to make a mistake, a mistake that never came. But an opportunity did. April had been employed for nearly four years during which time he’d learned of the SHIFT program and the results of scientific experiments on human subjects and while appalled by their fervor, said nothing to jeopardize his own position until he was assigned on an escort party that would be transporting some of their subjects to a new facility. He was greatly displeased but again kept his displeasure quiet, fully intended to do his job without a hitch. However the reason that they had a full detail of personnel was due to some radical public retaliation against the SHIFT Corporation’s experiments, this time proved no different.
In an effort to destroy the abomination the company had created, a group of extremists assaulted their vehicles. Explosives were used and April was severely injured and the cargo was lost. He was rushed to the company’s private hospital for treatment and his extensive injuries made it so recovery would be slow if at all, but he’d never get the chance to return to work as a human.
His father more or less sold him to the company, bribed the company coroner to submit a document of death as well as use one of the unrecognizable remains as a substitute. The family reaction was a thing of devastation for the three who were none the wiser, mourning the loss of a loved one genuinely. A loved one who for three years was trapped in the facility where the abominations he so loathed were created, and was made to become one. The scientists knew that he would not be missed and exploited that fact by applying different strains of DNA into their captive.
Three years of experimentation April all but lost his mind, his appearance from both reconstructive surgery from the bombing as well as from the splicing, had changed and the Ulaya family had moved their estate to another country in that time. April was released among others but was monitored closely due to the fact that he was the only survivor of their multiple strain experiment resulting in a hybrid creature. He was also under heavy surveillance to ensure that he lived. Complications had arisen with both his body and mental disposition and suicide was a worry for them. But amazingly April hasn’t taken that extreme yet and since has been forced to work for the company, guarding their secrets, foiling plots of those who would shut them down and keeping other SHIFTERS in line.
